Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Chefforia ("we", "us") collects when you use the Chefforia mobile app and this website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Chefforia is currently in early access.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, display name and a hashed password.
- Profile and health-related details you enter: sex, year of birth, height, weight, target weight, activity level and food preferences. We use these only to calculate your calorie and macro targets and to build your meal plan.
- Your content: recipes, meal plans, shopping and pantry lists, diary entries, water and weight logs, and the links, photos, screenshots or voice recordings you choose to submit for import or logging.
- Technical data: basic server logs (such as IP address and request time) needed to keep the service running and secure.
How we use it
- To provide the app: storing your recipes, planning your week, building shopping lists and totalling your diary.
- To extract recipes and estimate nutrition from what you submit, using an AI provider (see below).
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
We do not sell your data and we do not show advertising.
Service providers
We use third parties to run Chefforia. They process data only on our behalf:
- Vercel hosts the application servers.
- Neon hosts our database (data is stored in the European Union, Frankfurt).
- Upstash provides the queue used for background jobs.
- Anthropic provides the AI models that read text, photos and audio transcripts you submit in order to extract recipes, estimate nutrition and suggest meal plans. Content is sent to them only when you use those features.
Sharing inside your household
If you join or create a household, the members can see the recipes, meal plan and shopping and pantry lists that are shared within it. Your personal profile details and diary are not shared unless you choose to log a meal for someone else.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time by writing to the address below; we will do so within 30 days.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, export and delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. Because some of the profile details above relate to health, we process them only with your explicit consent, which you give by entering them, and you can withdraw it by deleting them or your account.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are stored hashed, and access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
Chefforia is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
